Kenya, Africa (October 25, 2021) - A horse and rider expertly navigate a course of jumps, moving together in perfect unison, when a bright flash of textured color around the riders' waist catches the spectators eye. Unbeknownst to the spectator, that brilliant pattern was hand-made by a Maasai 'mama,' thousands of miles away in Kenya, Africa. Inspired by an act of generosity, The Kenyan Collection curates these amazing works of African culture for the Western markets, and their pieces have become a common site especially among equestrian communities. Drawn by their bold patterns and quality craftsmanship, Gabriela Reutter of Lumière Horses has partnered with The Kenyan Collection to bring even more exposure to the work of the talented artisans of Maasai.
Each piece is created by one of the Maasai mamas, who, along with the guidance of a talented leather worker and designer, use their natural sense of color and design to stitch amazing patterns for Western markets. In the Maasai culture, the beaded apparel signifies something important about the wearer - age, marital status, or special events in their lives. The Kenyan Collection's goal is to demonstrate that African made products can compete in the global marketplace, while at the same time creating employment for the artisans and an investment in their future.
Reutter is an international show jumper based out of Pittstown, New Jersey and Wellington, Florida. Currently competing in Europe for her home country of Chile, she has modeled The Kenyan Collections belts and canine pieces across three continents. "I love the patterns and how they compliment different colors and fashions," said Reutter. "They add something very unique to my show attire and to my catalog of partners."

Reutter's passion for equestrian sport began at a young age, and has since taken her to the upper echelons of show jumping. Combining talent, horsemanship, and dedication to her dreams, she rides with the aspiration of representing Chile at the pinnacle of show jumping sport. Born in Santiago, Chile, Gaby began riding at only four years old. At 17, she moved to the United States to pursue a professional show jumping career. Since 2014, she has ridden under the guidance of Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist Chris Kappler, and completed her undergraduate degree in Economics and Business Studies at NYU.
To date, Gaby has multiple top finishes in international FEI classes, from the U25 Grand Prix divisions to victory in an FEI 4-star event. She currently campaigns her two show jumpers, Maharees Rock (aka Rocky) and Here I Am Z (aka Hero), and her string of sales horses. Her international equestrian CV also includes Spruce Meadows, The Hampton Classic, and several junior/young rider South American Games. She and Rocky were in the top 3 in the $30,000 Pilates Rock Grand Prix during WEF 1, and in 2018, Reutter received her certificate of capability for the Pan American Games following a top 3 finish in the FEI 3-star 1.50M Captive One Classic.
