Lumière Horses Shines on European and Nations Cup Tour

Gabriela Reutter of Lumière Horses competing on the Sunshine Tour

Vilamoura, Quarteira, Faro, Portugal (December 31, 2021) - Spanish sunshine and Portugal's Mediterranean paradise set the stage for Lumière Horses' Gabriela Reutter and her blossoming international Grand Prix mare, Maharees Rock, to hone their skills and compete in the pair's second senior Nations Cup event. Reutter left for Europe in October, jumping successfully on the Sunshine Tour and at the Vilamoura CSIO3-star, with two Nations Cup efforts being the crowning achievement of the tour and 2021 for Lumière Horses.

Her first European stop was Spain's Sunshine Tour in October, where they finished 12th in the CSI2-star 1.45M Ranking Class, and went on to finish fourth in the 1.45M CSIO3-star opening class. She and Maharees Rock then represented Chile in their first CSIO3-star Nations Cup. An early elimination from Chile's first rider, however, put Chile out of contention as they only had three riders, but Reutter finished as the top ranked Chilean in the class with a single rail and a time fault.

November's Vilamoura CSIO3-star in Portugal saw Reutter placing in the Grand Prix Qualifier in preparation for her final European Nations Cup outing of 2021. Again on a three rider team for Chile, Reutter finished with one time fault and one jumping fault, while her teammates Jorge Matte Capdevila and Tomas Couve Correa each finished with 5 faults. The trio finished with 15 total faults, ultimately placing 12th out of 17 teams.

"I'm so happy with our performance in Europe, especially in the Vilamoura 3-star Nations Cup," said Reutter. "Considering we only had 3 riders it was a great way to finish my time in Europe and prepare for the Pan Am Games, which will be held in Chile in 2023. All of my rides were consistent, and Rocky jumped amazing every time."

In addition to her own string, Reutter was invited to show two horses for IN Showjumpers, a UK-based training yard focusing on developing horses for international competition. She finished her final two weeks in Europe on the Mediterranean Tour in Oliva, Spain. Reutter competed in the 1.20M and 1.30M divisions in November's CSI1-star with Dahlia de Roy, a 2013 Selle Français mare. The pair finished first and 5th in the 1.20Ms, where their victory prompted the playing of the Chilean national anthem on Spanish soil. They also logged double second place finishes in the 1.30M.

Lumière Horses' closed out 2021 with multiple high notes, and Reutter and her horses are now preparing for the 2022 Florida show season.

Reutter's passion for equestrian sport began at a young age, and has since taken her to the upper echelons of show jumping. Combining talent, horsemanship, and dedication to her dreams, she rides with the aspiration of representing Chile at the pinnacle of show jumping sport. Born in Santiago, Chile, Gaby began riding at only four years old. At 17, she moved to the United States to pursue a professional show jumping career. Since 2014, she has ridden under the guidance of Olympic Gold and Silver Medalist Chris Kappler, and completed her undergraduate degree in Economics and Business Studies at NYU.

To date, Gaby has multiple top finishes in international FEI classes, including her Nations Cup accomplishments, European tour, the U25 Grand Prix divisions, and victory in an FEI 4-star event. She currently campaigns her anchor show jumper, Maharees Rock (aka Rocky) and a string of sales horses. Her international equestrian CV also includes Spruce Meadows, The Hampton Classic, and several junior/young rider South American Games. She and Rocky were in the top 3 in the $30,000 Pilates Rock Grand Prix during WEF 1, and in 2018, Reutter received her certificate of capability for the Pan American Games following a top 3 finish in the FEI 3-star 1.50M Captive One Classic.
